Oxygen Absorber Tips ⬇️ Oxygen absorbers are an important part of long term food storage. They remove oxygen and can lengthen the shelf life of stored foods. If you leave them exposed to air they do get used up. If they are hard and crunchy they’ve been activated and should be tossed. I suggest leaving one out so that you can feel the difference. Store unused oxygen absorbers by resealing the bag they came in or putting them in the smallest jar possible. Work quickly but you do have some time. Buying individually packaged OA can be helpful as well. If you’ve bought them in a bulk bag they will feel hard until you open the package. There should also be a little colored indicator showing if the package has been exposed to oxygen. This may turn purple as you work, it usually goes back to pink after resealing. Oxygen absorbers are not the same as desiccant packets. Desiccant packets absorb moisture.
