C-steel posts are best mounted by digging 600mm+ deep holes, adding gravel for drainage, and setting them in concrete for stability, especially for, fence post installation. For surface mounting, use expansion anchors through a steel base plate into concrete. They can also be driven directly into the ground for a faster, concrete-free method.

    Installation Methods
    • Concrete Footing (Standard):
      • Dig holes at least 600mm deep, or to frost line.
      • Add a gravel base to prevent moisture buildup.
      • Insert the post, brace, and fill with concrete, ensuring it's level.
    • Driving Method (Faster):
      • Use a manual or hydraulic driver to drive the post directly into the soil.
      • This is ideal for immediate stability without waiting for concrete to cure.
    • Surface Mounting (Concrete Slab):
      • Use a post base/bracket anchored to the concrete using dyna-bolts or concrete screws.
      • Ensure the bolts are tightened to secure the post.
    C-Post Specifics
    • Orientation: C-posts are ideal as intermediate supports for straight fence runs.
    • Fastening: Use self-tapping screws for attaching rails or brackets directly to the galvanized steel.
    • Corner Posts: For gate or corner posts, ensure a deeper hole (e.g., 30 inches) to handle higher loads.
This video explains how to set a corner post in wet concrete:

    Tips for Success
    • Layout: Use stakes and string lines to mark the exact position for each post.
    • Leveling: Check that each post is level and aligned before the concrete sets.
    • Protection: Use galvanized steel to resist rust and ensure longevity.

How do you anchor a steel post to a concrete slab?
Insert and Tighten Anchors: Place your post base over the holes. Insert the expansion anchors through the post base and into the drilled holes. Then, using a socket wrench or impact driver, tighten the nuts. As you tighten, the anchor will expand within the concrete, creating a secure grip.Feb 10, 2026
