How to insert a spring pin?

First, align the Coiled Pin up to the hole by hand. Next, simply hammer the Coiled Pin into the hole as if it was a nail. Drive the pin to the desired insertion depth and be careful not to damage the host . Using a hammer is great for prototyping a handful of assemblies or trying out a Coiled Pin for the first time.

How does a spring pin work?

How spring pins work

Insertion:

A spring pin's diameter is larger than the hole it is being installed into. It is compressed to fit by having a slot (in a slotted pin) or by coiling (in a coiled pin).
Expansion:

After insertion, the pin expands back to its original diameter. This expansion creates a tight, self-retained interference fit.
Retention:

The constant outward force against the hole walls holds the pin in place, securing two or more parts together without needing adhesives or other fasteners.
Flexibility:

The pin's flexibility allows it to fit into holes with a wider tolerance range compared to rigid pins, and it can also absorb shock and vibration.

Types of spring pins

Slotted spring pins:

These have a single-turn, C-shaped cross-section with a slot running the length of the pin. They are known for being able to withstand shock and vibration but can have stress concentrated opposite the slot.
Coiled spring pins:

These are made from a single piece of metal that is coiled multiple times. They offer greater flexibility, uniformly distributed stress, and can handle more repeated flexing than slotted pins.
