    1. Safety First: Turn off power to the thermostat at the breaker. 
    2. Set the Meter: Set your multimeter to read AC Volts (VAC), not DC volts (VDC).
    3. Test the Wires:
      • Place one probe on the R (Red) terminal.
      • Place the other probe on the C (Common - usually blue or black) terminal, or another terminal like G (fan). 
      • You should read approximately 24-28V AC if it's a 24V system.
