How to make a 5 gallon bucket of laundry detergent?

To make a 5-gallon bucket of laundry detergent, grate or chop one bar of soap and melt it in a pot with about 4-6 cups of hot water. While the soap is melting, fill a 5-gallon bucket halfway with hot water, add 1-2 cups of borax and 1-2 cups of washing soda, and stir to dissolve. Once the soap is fully melted, pour the soap mixture into the bucket, add more hot water to fill the bucket, and stir well to combine. Let the mixture sit overnight to gel, and stir again before use.

1 bar of soap (like Fels-Naptha, Zote, or pure castile soap)
1-2 cups Washing Soda (not baking soda)
1-2 cups Borax
Hot water

Melt the soap:

Grate or chop one bar of soap. Place the soap in a pot with 4-6 cups of hot water and heat on the stove, stirring until the soap is completely melted and dissolved.
Prepare the bucket:

Fill a 5-gallon bucket about halfway with hot tap water.
Add dry ingredients:

Add 1-2 cups of washing soda and 1-2 cups of borax to the bucket. Stir well until the powders are completely dissolved.
Combine ingredients:

Pour the melted soap mixture from the pot into the bucket. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
Finish filling and mix:

Fill the rest of the bucket with more hot water. The mixture will be bubbly at first. Stir again to ensure everything is mixed together.
Let it gel:

Place a lid on the bucket and let it sit for at least 8 hours or overnight to gel.
Use the detergent:

Stir or shake the gelled soap before each use to break it up. Use about 1/4 to 1/2 cup per load, depending on your machine's capacity.
