    Key Aspects of P-Seals 
    • Purpose: They provide a critical, redundant seal in the lower sealing area of a wellhead, separating the casing annulus from the flange connection.
    • Design: The P-Seal acts on the outside diameter (OD) of the casing or tubing to provide a tight seal. They often use high-performance elastomers such as HNBR.
    • Components: A standard P-seal includes a primary rubber sealing element (homogenous elastomer or rubberized fabric) and integrated anti-extrusion components, reducing the need for loose parts during assembly.
    • Installation: Before installing, the casing head should be cleaned of debris. The seal is often lubricated, and the rubber portion is positioned first, followed by the anti-extrusion rings.
    • Application: Used for casing (e.g., 4-1/2" to 30" sizes) and in conjunction with casing heads, casing spools, and tubing heads. 
    For specialized needs, secondary seals like X-Bushings or R-Seals can protect the connection from contamination and allow for external testing.
