L1, L2, T1, and T2 are standard terminals on a contactor where 'L' stands for the line (incoming power) and 'T' stands for load (outgoing power). L1 and L2 are the input terminals where the main power supply is connected, and T1 and T2 are the output terminals that supply power to a load, such as a motor in an HVAC system.

Power flow:
When the contactor is energized by its coil, the magnetic field connects the L1 and L2 terminals to their respective T1 and T2 terminals, closing the circuit and allowing power to flow to the load.
Switching action:
The contactor acts as a heavy-duty switch. When the coil is de-energized by a control signal (like from a thermostat), the magnetic field collapses, and the contacts open, cutting off power to the load.
Safety:
The line and load sides are clearly marked to prevent incorrect wiring, which could be a safety hazard for maintenance personnel.
Common use:
This setup is common in HVAC systems to control the compressor and fan motor. The thermostat controls the contactor's coil, and the main power from L1 and L2 is switched on and off at T1 and T2 to operate the outdoor unit's components.

A contactor is an electromagnetic switch that controls high-power circuits by using a low-power signal. It acts like a heavy-duty relay, allowing a low-voltage control signal to turn a high-voltage, high-current load on and off. When a low-power signal is applied to the coil, it creates a magnetic field that closes the main contacts, allowing power to flow to the load. When the signal is removed, the field collapses, and a spring returns the contacts to their open position, stopping the power flow.
