    • Spangled:
      The "spangle" is a crystalline pattern, similar to a sponge-painted or snowflake-like design, that forms as the zinc cools. The size and shape of the spangle depend on the zinc alloy and cooling rate. 
    • Uniform:
      Some processes, like electro-galvanizing, result in a more uniform and shinier finish. 
    After weathering
    • Matte gray:
      Over time, the zinc coating oxidizes and forms a stable, matte gray patina that protects the steel underneath.
    • Uniformity:
      The appearance becomes more uniform as it weathers naturally and the initial spangles and shine dull down. 
    Other factors
    • Combination:
      It's common for a piece to show a combination of these appearances, such as being shiny in some areas and having a spangle pattern in others. 
    • Corrosion resistance:
      The appearance, whether shiny, spangled, or matte, has no bearing on the corrosion protection the coating provides.
