Aims of First Aid: Understanding the 3 Ps of First Aid
The "3 Ps" of first aid are a mnemonic for the fundamental goals of emergency care: Preserve life, Prevent deterioration, and Promote recovery . These principles guide a first responder in managing an emergency by ensuring the patient's immediate safety and stability, and then by aiding their long-term healing until professional medical help arrives.
    Here's a breakdown of each P:
    1. Preserve Life :
This is the immediate priority, focusing on actions to keep the person alive, such as performing CPR or ensuring a clear airway. It also includes assessing the situation for dangers to yourself and the patient before proceeding.
    2. Prevent Deterioration (or Prevent Further Injury) :
Once immediate life threats are managed, the next step is to prevent the casualty's condition from worsening. This could involve stopping bleeding, stabilizing a fracture, or protecting an unconscious person from harm.
    3. Promote Recovery :
The final goal is to support the injured person's healing process. This involves providing comfort, reassuring them, and taking steps to help them get better while waiting for professional medical care.

    AI Overview
10 Quick First Aid Tips | The Response Institute | CPR ...
Ten basic first aid tips include: prioritizing safety, assessing the situation, calling for emergency help, controlling bleeding by applying direct pressure, treating burns with cool water for 10-20 minutes, cleaning and covering wounds with sterile dressings, applying R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for sprains, keeping a bleeding person warm, reassuring the person, and having a well-stocked first aid kit on hand .
    1. Prioritize Safety
Before you do anything, ensure the scene is safe and that you won't become a casualty yourself.
    2. Assess the Situation
Quickly check the person's condition to see if they are responsive and if they are breathing.
    3. Call for Emergency Help
As soon as possible, call your local emergency number (like 911 or 112) for an ambulance and update them on the situation.
    4. Control Bleeding
Apply direct, firm pressure to the wound with a sterile cloth or gauze. If possible, elevate the bleeding body part above the person's heart.
    5. Treat Burns
Cool the injured area with cool or lukewarm water for 10 to 20 minutes. Do not remove any clothing, watches, or wearables from the burnt area.
    6. Clean and Cover Wounds
Rinse cuts and scrapes with clean, running water, then pat the area dry. Cover the wound with a sterile bandage or clean cloth to prevent infection.
    7. Treat Sprains with R.I.C.E.
For sprains, remember R.I.C.E. — Rest the injured limb, apply Ice, use Compression to reduce swelling, and Elevate the injured limb above the heart.
    8. Keep the Person Warm
If the injured person is showing signs of shock or is cold, use a coat or blanket to keep them warm.
    9. Offer Comfort and Reassurance
Provide comfort and reassurance to the person until medical help arrives.
    10. Be Prepared
Keep a well-stocked first aid kit in your home and car so you have the necessary supplies readily available in an emergency.
