HP SFP+ Transceiver Portfolio Key Types 
  • SR (Short Range): Uses 850nm lasers, typically for up to 300m on OM3 multi-mode fiber (MMF) or 400m on OM4. Commonly used for data center rack connections.
  • LRM (Long Reach Multimode): Reaches up to 220m on OM3/OM4 and FDDI/OM1/OM2 (with mode conditioning cables). Good for older fiber infrastructure.
  • LR (Long Range): Operates on 1310nm wavelengths, supporting distances up to 10km over single-mode fiber (SMF).
  • ER (Extended Range): Uses 1550nm lasers to achieve long-distance communication up to 40km over SMF.

10GBASE-LRM (and SR, LR) have no minimum distance. You only have minimum distance requirements when dealing with >10km optics for the most part (ER and ZR).Read more
