    AI Overview
Water-based ink preparation involves blending clear binder bases with pigments, followed by additives for flow, curing, or anti-drying, typically requiring high-speed mixing for 20-30 minutes and grinding for industrial consistency. Key components include pigments (10-20%), water-based resins (20-35%), and water or alcohol as solvent, aimed at achieving a smooth, printable consistency.
    Key Preparation Steps (Industrial Method)
    • Mixing: Combine water-based pigments and resins at normal temperature.
    • Dispersion: Stir the mixture using a high-speed dispersion machine at 6,000–9,000 rpm for 20–30 minutes.
    • Grinding: Process the mixture in a sand mill with grinding media (e.g., glass beads) for 5–7 hours to ensure fine, consistent pigment distribution.
    • Additives & Filtering: Add defoamers and leveling agents to control viscosity and surface tension, followed by filtering for final packaging.
Key Components for DIY or Screen Printing
    • Clear Base: The core, usually an acrylic emulsion.
    • Pigments: Colored pigments added to the base, ideally diluted 1:1 or 1:9 with water to prevent clumping.
    • Retarder/Additives: Added (3-5% by weight) to stop the ink from drying on the screen.
    • Curing: Water-based inks must have the water evaporated. This requires heat, with industrial, professional, or DIY methods often requiring

What are the disadvantages of water based ink?
    Disadvantages Of Water-Based Inks

Water-based ink is much more difficult to cure than plastisol. A shop that is interested in printing water-based ink must have the drying capacity to remove the water. The dryers used for water-based printing tend to be larger than those needed for plastisol.
