Consequences of Skipping Sanding (After Recoat Window)
- Poor Adhesion:The new layer can't grip the smooth, cured surface, resulting in weak bonding.
- Peeling & Delamination:Coats will separate from each other, compromising the integrity of the project.
- Uneven Finish:Imperfections like dust, bubbles, or roller marks from the previous coat won't be removed and will show through.
- Reduced Durability:The overall finish will be less robust and more prone to wear and tear.

When Sanding Isn't Necessary
- Within the Recoat Window: Most epoxies have a time frame (e.g., 4-10 hours, or up to a few days, depending on the product and temperature) where the first layer is still chemically bonding with the second, forming a single, strong surface.
- Seal Coats: A first seal coat often doesn't need sanding before the main flood coat.
