The OSFP 800GBASE-DR8 is a high-speed optical transceiver module for 800 Gigabit Ethernet, using the larger OSFP form factor, designed for data centers to connect switches and servers over single-mode fiber (SMF) for up to 500 meters, utilizing 1310nm wavelength and often employing parallel optics (8x100G or 2x400G lanes) via MPO connectors, supporting advanced cooling and crucial for AI/HPC networks. 

What it does:
It breaks down the 800G signal into multiple lanes (typically 8 lanes of 100G or 2 lanes of 400G), sending them over separate fibers, enabling high density and distance for demanding, high-bandwidth data center interconnects.
