Toyo Quality Soy Oil Based Sheet Fed Offset Printing Ink ...
Soybean oil-based process ink is an eco-friendly, renewable alternative to petroleum-based inks, formulated using soybean oil instead of mineral oils. It provides bright, high-quality color, is easily removed during paper recycling, and has low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels, making it a popular sustainable option in the printing industry.
    Key Advantages and Characteristics
    • Vibrant Color and Quality: Due to the clarity of soy oil, pigments produce sharper, deeper, and more vibrant colors, which is particularly beneficial for four-color process printing.
    • Environmental Friendliness: Soy ink is biodegradable and has low VOC levels, making it safer for the environment.
    • Improved Recycling: Paper printed with soy ink is easier to de-ink, resulting in cleaner and more efficient recycling processes.
    • Reduced Consumption: Soy ink often covers a larger area than petroleum-based inks, with some reports indicating it spreads up to 15% further, reducing overall usage and costs.
    • Performance: It provides stable ink-water balance, low tack, and high gloss, making it suitable for high-speed presses and reducing risks of set-off or piling.
    Components and Production
    • Production: Soybean oil is derived from refined soybean oil, which is then blended with pigments, resins, and waxes.
    • Composition: According to the American Soybean Association, soy inks can range in their soy content; for instance, web heatset ink commonly contains 20% or more soy content.

Is soy-based ink better than petroleum-based ink?
Perhaps the most attractive attribute of soy ink is its ability to create brighter colors compared to petroleum-based inks with the same added pigments. As if that wasn't enough, soy-based inks require less pigments to make those sharper colors, which provides additional economic and environmental benefits.May 24, 2018
