    • Addresses Small Fragments: Helps fix fractures with comminuted (shattered) or small distal fragments where standard plates might struggle. 
    Surgical Procedure 
    1. Incision: Made over the lateral clavicle.
    2. Reduction: Fragments are aligned, often with guide wires, and the hook depth is adjusted to fit under the acromion.
    3. Provisional Fixation: Plate tacks or K-wires temporarily hold the plate.
    4. Screw Placement: Screws (locking or non-locking) secure the plate to the clavicle, with the first screw placed medial to the fracture.
    5. Assessment: X-rays confirm alignment and placement.
    6. Closure: Soft tissues are closed, and the implant is left in place. 
    Post-Surgery 
    • Sling: Used for 1-2 weeks for protection.
    • Rehab: Early range-of-motion exercises are encouraged, but vigorous activity is limited until healing is confirmed (around 6 months). 
    Implant Removal 
    • Common: Removal is often planned in a second surgery once the fracture heals to prevent implant-related issues.
    • Reasons for Removal: Irritation, prominence under the skin (especially in thin patients), or rotator cuff irritation are common reasons. 
    Alternatives & Considerations 
    • Locking Plates: Offer similar healing rates but generally have lower complication rates than hook plates, according to some studies.
    • Other Methods: Internal bracing or CC ligament reconstruction are less invasive alternatives.
    • Surgeon's Choice: The decision between hook plates and other options depends on fracture type, surgeon experience, and potential complications.
