A diplexer combines or separates two different frequency bands into or from a single path, such as an antenna or coaxial cable. It acts as a type of filter, directing signals to the correct path based on their frequency, and allows two devices operating on different frequency bands to share a single transmission line without interference.

How it works

Filtering:
A diplexer uses low-pass and high-pass filters to split signals. The low-pass filter lets lower frequencies pass through, while blocking higher ones, and the high-pass filter does the opposite.
Combining (forward path):
Two signals at different frequencies are fed into the diplexer. The low-pass filter directs the low-frequency signal to one port, and the high-pass filter directs the high-frequency signal to another port. A common port combines them onto a single cable.
Separating (reverse path):
A combined signal enters the common port. The diplexer splits the signal, sending the low frequencies through the low-pass port to one device and the high frequencies through the high-pass port to another device.

Antenna sharing:
Allows a transmitter and a receiver to use the same antenna, as long as they operate on different frequencies.
Satellite and terrestrial TV:
Combines a satellite TV feed (higher frequencies) and a terrestrial TV antenna feed (lower frequencies) into a single cable running to the TV.
Telecommunications:
Separates incoming and outgoing signals in full-duplex communication systems.
GNSS/Bluetooth:

How it works

A diplexer has three ports: two input/output ports and one common port.
Each port is connected to a filter designed for a specific frequency range, typically a low-pass and a high-pass filter.
The filters act to either combine signals from the two different frequency bands onto a single line or to split incoming signals from that single line into their respective frequency bands at the output ports.
This process is frequency-dependent, meaning a signal in the low-frequency band will be directed to the low-pass port, and a signal in the high-frequency band will go to the high-pass port.

Satellite TV: Combines satellite TV signals (high frequency) with terrestrial TV signals (low frequency) onto one cable to a TV.
