    Drawbacks and Limitations 
    • Wear and Tear: Constant physical swiping causes degradation of the card's magnetic stripe and the reader.
    • Lower Security: Mag stripe cards are easier to clone (copy) compared to encrypted smart cards.
    • Power Dependency: Electronic locks may fail to open during power outages if they do not have a backup supply.
    • Physical Contact Required: Users must touch the reader, making it less hygienic and convenient than contactless "proximity" cards. 
    How It Works
    A swipe card system requires three main components: a card with a magnetic stripe containing user data, a magnetic reader, and a locking mechanism (like a magnetic strike or electric strike). When swiped, the reader checks the data against a database and sends a signal to unlock the door if authorized.
