    How it works 
    • Molten metal preparation: Aluminum is melted in a furnace. In cold chamber die casting, which is standard for aluminum, the molten metal is transferred to the casting chamber, as shown in this diagram, or maintained in a holding furnace next to the machine, as described by Lamar Tool & Die Casting, Inc..
    • Mold closing and locking: The two halves of the steel mold (die) are closed and locked under high pressure.
    • Metal injection: A hydraulic system injects the molten aluminum into the mold cavity at high pressure, ensuring it fills every detail.
    • Cooling and solidification: The molten aluminum cools and solidifies inside the mold.
    • Part extraction: The mold opens, and the solidified casting is ejected from the mold.
    • Finishing: Excess material ("flash") is trimmed, and the part may undergo further secondary operations like machining, finishing, or assembly. 
    Why pure aluminum is rarely used 
    • Cost: The energy-intensive process of refining primary, or pure, aluminum makes it significantly more expensive for die casting than using recycled aluminum alloys.
    • Alloy benefits: Recycled aluminum alloys often have superior properties for die casting, such as improved strength and corrosion resistance, making them a more practical choice for most applications.
