This prevents the panel's busbars from being overloaded, which can cause overheating or fire, by ensuring the sum of the main breaker and the solar breaker doesn't exceed the limit. Purpose:

Application:
The rule applies when a solar system is connected to an existing electrical panel on the "load side". It also applies when a new panel is being selected to ensure it's large enough for the intended solar system.

Panel Upgrade:
Replace the existing panel with a new one that has a higher rating.
Main Breaker Derate:
Replace the main breaker with one of a smaller amperage to allow more capacity for the solar breaker.
Line-Side Tap:
Connect the solar system to the "line side" of the main breaker, which bypasses the busbar limit.
Relocation of Breaker:
In some cases, a center-fed breaker may be moved to the end of the busbar to meet the code.
