How many coats of 2K primer do I need?

Typically, you should apply 2 to 3 coats of 2K primer, allowing for 5–10 minutes of flash time between coats. However, the number of coats can vary: apply more coats (up to 4) if there is significant bodywork or filler, and consider 2-3 medium wet coats for standard applications.

Factors influencing the number of coats

Extent of bodywork:

Areas with a lot of filler may require more coats (3-4) to prevent sinkage, which is the absorption of primer by the filler, say Southern Polyurethanes and this YouTube video .
Coats for coverage:

The number of coats also depends on the color being applied. Solid colors generally require fewer coats than pearls or metallics.
Purpose of the application:

Application guidelines

Flash time:
