    Steps to Check King Pins:
    1. Secure the Vehicle:
      Safely jack up the front axle of the vehicle so that the wheels are completely off the ground.
    2. Apply Pressure:
      • Place one hand at the top (12 o'clock position) of the tire and the other at the bottom (6 o'clock position).
      • Push on the top hand while pulling on the bottom hand, or use a pry bar to apply upward and downward force on the wheel.
    3. Observe for Movement:
      Watch the area where the kingpin connects to the steering knuckle. Look for any gap or movement as you rock the wheel.
    4. Use a Dial Indicator (Optional):
      For a more precise measurement, you can use a dial indicator to measure the axial (up-and-down) and lateral (side-to-side) play.
    5. Use a Kingpin Gauge (Optional):
      A specialized kingpin gauge can be used to measure the wear on trailer kingpins.
    Signs of Worn Kingpins:
    • Visible Gap: A gap opening and closing between the steering knuckle and the kingpin indicates wear.
    • Play: More than 1/8 inch of movement in the tire when checked.
    • Noisy Steering: You may hear clunking or grinding noises when turning, especially when combined with other symptoms.
