Horsepower & Airflow:
Your engine's power dictates how much air needs cooling; a bigger engine needs more cooling capacity.
Core Dimensions:
Measured by length x height x thickness; a larger surface area (more thickness/height/length) improves cooling but can add lag if too big.
Turbo Lag:
An oversized intercooler or unnecessarily large pipes increase volume, making the turbo work harder to build boost.
Pressure Drop:
Aim for low pressure drop (under 1.5 psi at full boost is good) to maintain efficient power delivery.
Core Type:
Tube & Fin: Common in OEM, less efficient, cheaper.
