    How it Works 
    1. Normal Operation: The SPD has very high resistance, allowing normal DC current to pass through to your equipment.
    2. Surge Event: When a surge hits (like from lightning), the voltage spikes rapidly.
    3. Diverting the Surge: The SPD's internal components (like MOVs) sense this overvoltage, their resistance drops dramatically, creating a low-resistance path to ground.
    4. Protection: Excess current flows harmlessly to the ground, preventing the surge from reaching and damaging your DC devices. 
    Key Applications 
    • Solar PV Systems: Protecting inverters, charge controllers, and panels from lightning-induced surges.
    • Battery Backup Systems: Safeguarding banks and DC distribution panels.
    • Telecommunications: Protecting DC power feeds for communication gear. 
    Important Considerations 
    • Grounding is Critical: An SPD needs a solid ground connection to function effectively; without it, it can't divert the surge.
    • Not for Direct Strikes: SPDs protect against induced surges (nearby strikes) but can't stop damage from a direct lightning hit; dedicated lightning rods are needed for that.
