    BS EN 29865 (identical to ISO 9865) is a standard for determining the water repellency of textile fabrics, such as rainwear, by simulating rain using a Bundesmann rain-shower tester.     Test Method and Procedure 
    • Principle: Circular fabric samples are mounted on holders and exposed to a 10-minute shower. During this time, a rotating wiper presses against the underside of the fabric to simulate natural movement.
    • Conditions: The rain is produced by 300 jet nozzles, producing a flow rate of (100 ± 5) ml/min over an 80 cm² area from a height of 150 cm.
    • Evaluation: Results are graded 1 to 5 (Grade 5 = lowest water absorption, highest repellency). 
    Measured Parameters 
    The Bundesmann test measures three key aspects of water resistance: 
    1. Surface water repellency: Visual evaluation by comparing wetted samples to reference photographs (Grade 1-5).
    2. Water absorption: The percentage of water absorbed by the fabric, determined by weighing it before and after a 15-second centrifugation.
    3. Water penetration: The amount of water (in ml) that passes through the fabric into the specimen cups.
